Jin Shin Jyutsu® physio-philosophy is an ancient art of harmonizing the life energy in the body.

Bringing balance to the body’s energies promotes optimal health and well-being, and facilitates our own profound healing capacity.

Jin Shin Jyutsu is a valuable complement to conventional healing methods, inducing deep relaxation and reducing the effects of stress.

“When I took my first seminar with Mary Burmeister I felt as if the secrets of the universe had been given to me. I had found a way, through Jin Shin Jyutsu, to touch the awesome mystery of life, of spirit living in a body. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to share this Art with others.”

– Alison Hammer Winans

Jin Shin Jyutsu employs twenty-six “safety energy locks” (analogous to the locks in a canal) along energy pathways that feed life into our bodies. When one or more of the paths become blocked, the resulting stagnation can disrupt the local area and eventually disharmonize the complete path of the energy flow. This is analogous to the flow of water in a river. When the river is healthy, the water flows freely within the banks and stays clean. When a dam occurs and the river overflows its banks, some formerly dry areas may get flooded–while others may become stagnant, polluted, or dry up completely. In the human body, these areas of stagnation or overflow manifest as symptoms of disease. Holding different combinations of the twenty-six energy locks helps to facilitate the energy flow throughout the body and bring balance to mind, body, and spirit.

Learning Jin Shin Jyutsu engages one in self study, self help. Through the process of “now know myself” we recognize the wisdom of the body, and we learn to interpret the messages provided and utilize them to restore balance.

Where is Jin Shin Jyutsu from?

In the early 1900s in Japan, the ancient Art of Jin Shin Jyutsu was revived and developed by Master Jiro Murai, who gathered insights from a variety of experiences, and used resources from East and West. This knowledge of Jin Shin Jyutsu was given to Mary Burmeister, who brought the Art to the U.S. in the 1950s and began teaching it in the early 1960s.

What happens in a Jin Shin Jyutsu session?

A Jin Shin Jyutsu session generally lasts 50 minutes to an hour. It does not involve massage, stretching, exercise, or manipulation of muscles. As the recipient lies down fully clothed on a comfortable, padded table, the practitioner places their fingertips on designated areas or safety energy locks, to harmonize and restore the energy flow. We call this “jumpercabling.” This facilitates the reduction of tension, fatigue and stress which accumulate through daily living, and creates a deep sense of harmony.

Individual sessions are customized according to the present needs of the recipient; each session is unique. For chronic conditions, it is usually helpful to schedule a series of sessions at close intervals. Jin Shin Jyutsu intensives (ten sessions given in one week) are available to help shift such deep-seated disharmonies. Every person is also given personalized suggestions for self-help Jin Shin Jyutsu to be done between sessions. Mary Burmeister’s three self-help books are available for purchase.

Who is helped by Jin Shin Jyutsu?

Everyone can benefit from the body-mind harmony created through Jin Shin Jyutsu, from the very young to very old, from basically healthy individuals to those who are critically ill or in hospice. Many come to support wellness and personal growth. Alison has had experience helping people with a wide range of issues, from backaches and migraines to menstrual disorders and chronic fatigue, and from mental/emotional disharmonies to arthritis, cancer, and strokes.

“A friend recommended Jin Shin Jyutsu and Alison Winans after I fell on the ice and broke my right wrist!! Ali was able to come to my house which was perfect as I had no way to get to her. Her gentle ministrations brought a sense of calm, well-being and balance to both my broken heart (I had recently left my 30 year marriage) and my broken bone. She was able to come as often as I needed her and my wrist mended in record time. My wrist surgeon has deemed my recovery nothing short of miraculous! I credit Ali and the way that she was able to release all blocked vital energy to ensure my speedy and complete recovery. The best thing about this unfortunate accident is that it put me in touch with a most talented healer. I remain a grateful fan!!”
